Calculate fiber loss according to standard procedures for any Network, We consider 0.4 dB per kilometer as the standard fiber loss. This figure can also be considered if the fiber is old and its health is not optimal, leading to increased loss. In such cases, the standard calculation becomes 0.5 * 15 = 8 dB, with an additional media loss of 2 dB, resulting in a total of 9.5 dB for 15km link with 20km SFP

To reduce fiber loss, we can utilize a -5dB or -dB attenuator. This solution is primarily effective for long-distance fibers such as those spanning 40k, 80k, or 100k SFP. Occasionally, attenuators may also be used to deliberately introduce additional fiber loss for optimal performance in high-performance or local low-distance fiber setups.

Fiber splice joint loss can reach max -0.2db However, with improved splicing techniques, there can be zero loss in joining fibers.

Some equipment might not respond well when loss is high. Additionally, note that in patch panels, losses can increase due to fibers going in and out of junction boxes.
